There’s just so much to love about having a dog in your life, isn’t there? They’re an endless source of joy, they’re always happy to see you, and they can help to keep you fit and healthy, too. But of course, as with all things in life, it’s important that we’re not just focusing on what we can get, but what we can give, too. While you’ll be taking care of the essentials that’ll give your dog a happy life, it’s always worthwhile looking at how you can step things up! In this blog, we’re going to run through some key ways that you can give your dog the best life ever.
Long Walks
You’ll be taking your dog on a couple of walks each day, but really, that’s just the minimum that they’ll be looking for. While some smaller dogs will be happy with a couple of twenty-minute walks, medium and large dogs will love to go on longer treks. Take a look at your schedule and see when you can fit in an extra-long walk. There’s nothing better than exploring a beautiful area close to your home with your family and pooch by your side.
Freedom to Roam
By nature, dogs are curious creatures. They want to explore! Even if it’s just in your home. While there might be one or two rooms where your dog can’t go, by and large, it’s best to give them the freedom to go wherever they please. You can imagine how frustrating it would be if you were confined to just a couple of rooms each day (it’d be the lockdown but even worse). As well as the inside of your home, give them access to the outside area too. There are dog doors for walls that’ll allow your canine friend to go out/come in without your assistance. It’s just important to secure the front/back of your property with a solid fence or gate, so they don’t roam further than they should.
Involved With the Family
Are you planning to have a cosy night with your family? Then be sure to get your dog involved. While you might want to restrict your pet’s access to the couch, keep in mind that they’ll be much happier if they’re allowed onto the seating area. You can either get a protective cover to keep your couch in tip-top condition, or you can invest in some cleaning products. It can be oh so enjoyable to spend an evening with snacks and films with the whole family, and that includes your dog!
Meeting Other Dogs
Finally, remember that you can’t be everything for your dog! Even if they’d happily be by your side forever, you can only do so much. Unless your dog has an issue with other dogs, then make sure that you’re providing them with an opportunity to play with their distant cousins and friends. Plus, mingling with other dog owners is one of the small joys of having a dog in your life.
