How To Make Your Home Look More Sophisticated

Most people want a home with a lot of style and plenty of sophistication. Many people think they can’t have a nice home because they don’t have enough money to fix it up or move to a fancier neighbourhood. However, we can assure you that this isn’t the case.

There are a lot of easy ways to make your home look more elegant. You can make your home look very sophisticated by just moving a few things, removing others, and buying just a few nice pieces. Read on to find out more.

Use Framed Mirrors

It should go without saying that taped-up, unframed images belong in your college days’ dorms and certainly won’t add to any kind of sophistication, but your mirrors in your elegant home can also benefit from the addition of a frame.

Consider replacing a plain piece of glass on the wall with some attractively framed mirrors. Alternatively, you could just frame your current mirror. The mirror will be nicely finished with a small plain moulding that is 2in to 6in wide, giving it a more sophisticated appearance.

Have A Dining Space

Something that always looks highly sophisticated is a dining space. This might not be an entire dining room, depending on the size of your home, but if you can carve out a small area to have a real dining table and some elegant Knocker chairs, you’ll instantly lift the entire area. Even if this is just a corner of your living room or kitchen, it’s well worth losing some of that space to a dining area.

When you think of sophistication, it’s unlikely you think of people eating dinner on trays on their laps or at the kitchen counter. That’s why a dining area, no matter how tiny it might actually be, is crucial.

Upgrade Your Kitchen Handles

Even if your home doesn’t have your dream kitchen yet, you don’t have to settle for what’s there. If the knobs on the cabinet doors are plain white plastic or cheap metal, you might want to replace them with something more interesting, like brushed brass handles, leather strap pulls, or cut-glass knobs. There are many designs to choose from, and many of them don’t cost that much. Putting on new handles can make a kitchen look like it’s been redone right away and give it a sophisticated air.

You’ll also be able to take your chosen hardware with you if you move, making it a great upgrade, even if you’re just renting for a short time.

Use Plump Cushions

Even if your couch came with two matching pillows, it probably could use a few more. When you stack enough to have more than one layer, the look is much more interesting, and you can add a lot of colour, texture, and personality.

Make sure your cushions are filled enough so that they look full, plump, and fluffy. But you don’t want them to be so tight that you can’t give them a “designer chop” to get that nice fold at the top.
